Synesthesia | Week 10

Forced Connections #2

"The production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body."

People with Synesthesia can for example, see sound, smells colours and taste shapes. There's a variety of different sensory combinations that exists but the most common form of Synesthesia is numbers, letter and even days of the week that appears as a colour.

Pharell - Happy

When I listen to this song I immediately think Yellow. As it's a happy colour, vibrant and just loud. Also because it's the soundtrack for Minions, and minions are yellow in colour.

Noel - Your Voice

This song is a sad ballad and it reminds me of the colour Blue. Blue = Sadness as it kinda relates to the rain/storms and also used in the context "He/She was feeling blue" (Meaning down or upset). Also the colour is a soft shade and in a way fragile looking.

Red Velvet - Dumb Dumb

This reminds me of Green. Just a very refreshing song, thus freshness = Green. Also because the grass is green and it makes one happy when looking at in and relaxing in a way? The repetitive chorus acts as that component in the song.

Eminem Ft Sia - Guts Over Fear

Red. The beat is slow, but the song is angry. Hate is often associated with Red and also fire. It is obvious in the lyrics.

Adele - Skyfall

The song is strong and powerful. Reminds of Purple. Often associated with Royalty, that's how I feel about Adele's vocals.

Ailee - Heaven

This song also has strong vocals and reminds me of White. Mainly because of the title and lyrics but also the purity of the song. Not to mention it's Ailee's debut song so it fits the colour White well.

JYJ XIA Junsu Ft Tablo - Flower

Mysterious, Powerful and Dark. Thus the colour Black for this. One of the most beautiful songs Iv'e ever heard in my life thanks to Junsu's powerful vocals.

Forced Connections | Week 9

Randomly choose one object from B and describe it with all of the adjectives from A.

A) Passionate, Sad, Brave, Creative, Greedy, Hardworking
B) Pencil, Clock, Computer Mouse, Cup, Plug, Candle

Clock - Hardworking
As it ticks every second and keeps going.

Pencil - Passionate
As it's used for studying/drawing and on mostly time-consuming projects/works.

Plug - Brave
Braving the electricity and the fact that it might just blow up any time especially if react with water.

Candle - Creative
As the burnt wax makes the weirdest shapes and also candles are mostly scented with the most interesting and nice smells.

Cup - Greedy
We will always fill up again and again.

Computer Mouse - Sad
Only used when we need it and left to the side when we don't. Also because most people use laptops and we don't really need a mouse as we have trackpads.

Analogical Thinking (2) | Week 8

Cars with facial expressions

:D

:l

Iv'e always thought that cars have faces but it was a ridiculous though that needs to be tucked in somewhere behind my mind. But it's amazing to see common objects in a new light and makes life a little bit more entertaining. This also helps us especially art students to think outside the box and remind us that creativity has no end. Even the tiniest detail can make something or someone looks a little more interesting or amusing whatever the main intend is. This shows that most objects incorporate Analogical Thinking but it's just that we were never aware. We humans seldom stop and look around at our surroundings especially living in fast pace country. This certainly helps us to think a little differently.

Other items with "faces":

Analogical Thinking (1) | Week 7

Analogical reasoning is any type of thinking that relies upon an analogy. An analogical argument is an explicit representation of a form of analogical reasoning that cites accepted similarities between two systems to support the conclusion that some further similarity exists.

Here's examples of objects that incorporate using Analogical thinking.

Sofa Bed
Sofa Bed means literally a sofa and a bed combined together. This is more convenient and space saving especially for small houses like the HDBs in Singapore. It's purpose is to serve as a sofa in the day especially when there's guests and a bed at night.

Chair Shelving Table
This is another space saving furniture. It serves as a table and/or a shelving display unit and can be separated and have chairs separately most probably to accommodate guests or be use as a dining table or can be used as a work desk too.

Soup Bowl with Chopsticks holder
A must have for especially us Asians. We our love for instant noodles, this is a convenient way to eat and place the chopsticks while waiting for it to cool down or if we have to take a short break for example getting a glass of water.

There's a never-ending lists of the objects that incorporate Analogical Thinking. It's amazing how many of these inventions we have and so readily available to make our everyday lives more convenient and also more interesting.

Lateral Thinking | Week 6

Lateral thinking is solving problems through an indirect and creative approach, using reasoning that is not immediately obvious and involving ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic. The term was coined in 1967 by Edward de Bono.

Mindmapping | Week 5

Cailtyn Jenner | Week 4

Caitlyn Jenner

Some of you may have heard of her, some of you might not. Caitlyn Jenner is not a designer but still a huge role model.  She's a former athlete who has won a gold medal for decathlon at the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976.

Caitlyn was born as Bruce Jenner. Yes, she was a guy. She is transgender and that word itself is breaking the rules.

Recently I became obsessed with the series I AM CAIT, which is a series she is in as the main character. She became famous because of the series Keeping Up With The Kardashians and I was a fan of that too, which I know is weird and that there a lot of hate especially from the public but I can't say it's not entertaining.

Getting back on track, Caitlyn came out in April this year with an interview with Diane Sawyer. She has dealt with gender dysphoria since her youth.

She then did a cover on Vanity Fair which became viral especially on social media and trended worldwide on twitter.

A short documentary was then filmed by Vanity Fair to talk about the cover and how the decision was made.

The reason I'm talking about her is that, as a TV personality having influence for the LGBTQ+ community is huge. Every year, every day even, there's people out there struggling with their sexuality, their gender and just struggling with themselves. They cannot be who they are because they'll get hated, they'll get bullied and they'll get killed. It is a topic that needs to be discussed but most people in the world choose to ignore it. They choose to close both their eyes and act like homosexuality in general does not exist.

This is how teens reacted to the news and I wish that most adults would have reacted/feel the same way.

Having Cailtyn come out is a huge help to the community. As a supporter for the community, this is something I am thankful for. In the I AM CAIT series, her journey is broadcasted to the public. She went to meet a diverse amount of people of variety. This allow the audience to be more educated and more open-minded on the topic.

After Caitlyn came out, same-sex marriage was legalised throughout the US in June. I would say that it might have influenced this decision a little. This is amazing as this should be legalised everywhere in the world. Everyone are humans and everyone are equal. We all deserve to be happy. Instead when the topic comes one people throw shades at each other and force religion into other people's throat.

This touched me to tears and they definitely delivered my message better than I can. It is amazing how pure and amazing kids are.

Caitlyn then appeared on Ellen Degenerous's talk show (She is openly lesbian and married) and briefly talked about her journey.

Everyone needs to know that gender and sexuality is not a choice, it is a gift that has been given to someone since they were born. It may be a surprise but it is not really. Just watch this touching video below.

Back on the topic of Caitlyn Jenner, this is her amazing speech on the ESPY Awards.

I'm not sure if my message was well delivered but I hope it came across right and that whoever reads this will understand. We all need to know that we are all human and we all have feelings. Do not discriminate people just because they are not "normal" by your standards. This is the cause of most suicides. You do not know what the person have been through. "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can kill me."
